Learn Visits at a next level with The Constellation facilitation in We Lead Programme
The Constellation’s Partnership with HIVOS’ We Lead programme continues!
After the We Lead Global Learning Festival 2024 in Mozambique, co-organised and facilitated by a team of The Constellation, teams and Rights Holders from the programme demanded to deepen the learning from their own and others’ experiences through learn visits. Now, coaches and facilitators from The Constellation are accompanying this process during the last semester of 2024.
In July, Meble Birengo and Marlou de Rouw helped to prepare and led the reflections on a rich series of Learn Visits in Nigeria, where The Constellations Support, Appreciate, Learn and Transfer practices are applied and improved. The recurrent reflections around What Makes us Human helped participants to conclude that labelling rights holders in ‘categories’ can stand in the way of inclusive and intersectional approaches. At the end of the event, participants planned joint actions focused on being more inclusive of people living with disabilities, and especially deaf women in all programmes; developing games that engage men and boys in the cause of young women and applying lessons from the Intersex and Refugee programmes that were visited.
We have seen the progressive work in Nigeria on these issues. Now we just have to dare!” said one participant from Niger.

From August-November the team with Meble Birengo, Aaliya Busolo, Eunice Musubika, and Eddy Man (technical) support are leading several Learn visit processes in Kenya – including a workshop on how to conduct home visits and community – and organisational visits as the start of breaking taboos and engaging communities in inclusive action for their own dream. The process will culminate in a Linking and Learning event that connects Uganda and Kenya based rightsholders and organisations in the We Lead programme.
The team Dolores Rey Novoa and Jessica Buisan are ensuring accounting and administrative support throughout the partnership.
“The We Lead programme aims to strengthen the influence and position of young women whose sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRH-R) are neglected the most. It targets young women and adolescent girls who live with HIV; face vulnerability and discrimination; live with a disability; and/or are affected by displacement.”
The Constellation is their trusted partner for Linking and Learning within the programme.
Reflecting on what we learned from community visits
“For We Lead, Learning visits are the “front and centre” of our learning agenda as they provide us with the opportunity to experience first-hand what our partners and right holders are doing and share ideas on how to improve our programme. They also make it possible for us to bond with each other and deepen our understanding of the different approaches that are being implemented.” Nyambura Gathumbi, Global Program manager.
